Clubbing & Nightlife In Europe

Tirana Albania and Prague the Czech Republic may cater for Jazz enthusiats, and the latter along with Bratislava Slovakia, Ljubljana Slovenia, Riga Latvia, Tallinn Estonia, Vilnius Lithuania may be the places for clubbers into house and techno - though all of these cities may be end up being outbidded for the European crown by Belgrade Serbia which offers good music clubs and dance clubs which are amongst the most friendly in Europe.

Another city Skopje Macedonia has several good clubs but recent changes to the licensing laws here are not likely to see many more opening. e The city guides contain information on Clubbing & Nightlife in the music and dance clubs in these very diverse Eastern Europe cities. House & Techno music is an international language with the latter a major influence on the clubscene across Eastern Europe with Belgrade in Serbia seemingly the hub. More.

Visitors should not that venues describing themselves as 'nightclubs' are often not devoted to music. This may be a secondary activity to restaurant and casino more physical interests. These 'nightclubs' may play less specialised sounds ( middle of the road) and those that are directly aimed at businessmen may ( but not always) have a more personal agenda than dancing. It should also be noted that because a club plays on house Friday it may not necesscarily do the same on Saturday.

Live bands are a regular feature of many clubs. Budapest Night Clubs

This twenty four city has many smalls bars that open all night and don't seem to charge partons for the privelege. The Suss Fel Nap Music Club in District V at Szent Istavan Korut (Tel: 374 3329) is aimed at a young audience and has a growing reputation for putting on bands destined to go on and succeed. The music is punk and techno but also features some pretty clever electronic music. Unlike some places there is plenty of seating as well.

The A38 Club in District X1 by the Petofi Hid is on board a ship moored in The Danube. Wednedays is retro, Thursdays reggae, Friday electronic and Saturdays Latin. Also has a restaurant on board

Sofia Nightlife & Clubs

Sofia has a rapidly developing nightlife with many bars and clubs open to the early hours. Two that are worth noting are firstly the Beer Hall Schweik at 6 Karnigradska Ulica. This venue has a wide selection of imported beers and definitely a 'Czech' ambience about it.

The other which is possibly the best bar in town is The Military Club at 8 Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard which is generally open until 5am. Apart from a large choice of Whisky and Bourbon it also sells f local wines.

Belgrade Nightclubs

Though Belgrade offers a fair range of ways of passing the night away - 90% of these establishments are off online. Techno music has, in the last decade, established itself 'bigtime' in Belgrade.

The area around the Kalemegdan Citadel, is where the best clubs are found including Underground Pariska 1A, Telephone: 328 2526. and the smaller Libido Skardarska 40C, Telephone334 1600. A good rule in Belgrade is to follow the crowds who are always happy to point you in the right direction. Alternatively you could register on a specialist nightclub website clubcoyu.

Copenhagen Night Cubs

Charlies Bar at Pilestraede 33. stands out not because of its prices but for its ambience. Open nightly to 2am (11pm on Sundays) it is a freehouse - offering real beers and real from Scandinavia, Europe and the United Kingdom including Czech Pilsner which is not always readily available in Northern Europe. The music free bar has a certain intimacy about it and is a good place for lovers and friends who want a evening out together. Locals often spend the evening here before setting out for a club.

The most striking thing about clubs in Copenhagen is the hours they open. Few start to move before midnight with one ClubBlueNote, Studiestraede 31,open doors at 5am for those who appreciate techno and house at dawn.

Stockholm Night Cubs

Stockholm has its fair quota of night clubs with the ones on the south side of the city in the Södermalm area generally less informal. Dress codes are relaxed though clubs on the east side - Östermalm have a reputation for refusing people who are not wearing designer clothes. These clubs can also be a very expensive night out. The formality aspect of Stockholm clubs is at first little bewildering - for example a group of revellers arriving in a taxis tends to be frowned upon by doorman who are notoriously unfriendly and certainly do not suffer fools or drunks.

Stampen, Stora Nygatan 5, is one of the cities leading clubs and heavily into jazz. Mainstream jazz and sounds from New Orleans and Dixieland by live sessionists can be heard heard here most night except Tuesdays which is Rock n Roll night. Closes 1 am weekdays - a little later at weekends.

Cafe Opera Operahuset serves as a bistro / teahouse during the day but at night it is transformed into a disco restaurant which you can queue for hours to get into. Very trendy, expensive and overated.
