Sofia airport is very well run with a post office, Atm machine, Tourist Office and a somewhat small business centre but with good facilities. Its three banks offer better rates than the The Bureau Exchange which should be avoided at all costs.

Public Transport In Sofia
Sofia's public transport is an integrated network of buses trolley buses and trams. Though in the last couple of years a few new carriages have been added most are 'tired' and are neither clean or fast. Most services operate from 05.30 until shortly after 11pm. Written Information about these services is very limited. Though some bus stops in the centre of Sofia do display details of the service the information is always written in Cyrillic and frankly a nightmare to decipher.
Tickets should be purchased in advance from kiosks and cost approximately 0.70LV. You can also buy a set of 10 on a strip for approximately 6LV but you must retain the used tickets otherwise the unused ones are not valid! These tickets may also be purchased at a higher price from the driver.
can also buy from kiosks one day passes for 3LV or a monthly pass for 37LV. Plain clothes inspectors travel on all routes and give on the spot fines for fare evaders.
There is one metro line from the city centre to Lyullin. This costs 70LV. Tickets are only available from the stations it serves.
Sofia also has several 'Marshrutk Minibus' services for a flat fare of 1.50LV. They have set routes and have to be hailed like a taxis. You have to pay the driver. Do not expect a receipt!. You must ask the driver to stop when you want to get off otherwise you will end up where he is going. These services are far quicker than other public transport but can be very crowded. If you like white knuckle fairground / amusement park rides this is for you!
