Berlin Airport & Airline Guide - Flight Arrivals & Departures & Berlin City Public Transport Information

Berlin has two airports - Berlin Schoenefeld & Berlin Tegel. Berlin Schoenefeld is to be expanded to incorporate the services currently operating out of Berlin Tegel. When these transitions are completed Berlin Tegel will be close & Berlin Schoenefeld will be renamed 'Berlin Brandenburg International with a new airport code: BBI. The changes are scheduled for completion in October 2011.

Schoenfeld Airport Facilities

At present this is a relatively small airport for a popular capital city but in March 2006 plans for it to be expanded to become Berlins sole airport in 2011 were finalised. These plans include a new state of the arc terminal.

It currently has one restaurant and four bars and a few small shops which can become very over crowded. It has baby changing room facilities and a very creditable bespoke VIP service which offering conference facilties etc. Tel 49 (0) 30 4101 3093

Travel From Schoenefeld Airport To Central / Downtown Berlin

The Airport Bus 171 from outside the terminal building will take you to Central Berlin - journey time of 45 -60 minutes. Alternatively take the 163 bus to Schonefeld rail station. Trains to Alexanderplatz (East Berlin) take 21 minutes and to Zoologischer (West Berlin) about 31 minutes. Some trains continue on to Potsdam.

Compact and at busy times a little oppressive. Has a dozen or so shops four bars and four restaurants. Overall a good standard of customer service inspite of its projected closure in October 2011.

Travel From Tegel Airport To Central / Downtown Berlin

No rail link. Bus services are x9 and 109 which operate several times an hour and go to Bahnhof Zoo West Berlin. The Jet Express bus goes to Unter Den Linden (leading to the Brandenburg Gate in Central Berlin. Taxis to central / West Berlin cost around 30- 35 euros

Berlin Public Transport information

Berlin has a integrated travel network of S-Bahn trains , U-Bahn Underground trains, bus, and in East Berlin only trams. All services are run by BVG - website. Alternatively Telephone 030 19 44 9 or email. The system is efficient provided you understand that the term 'Metro' refers to the bus and tram network! .

Any valid ticket or pass can be used on the rail, underground bus or trams. Ticket machines at stations and on trams accept coins and have instructions in English. On station platforms you may also use banknotes. On buses only tickets can be purchased from the driver. Tickets may also be purchased from the information desks on the main S bahn stations.

A single ticket (Einzelticket) costs €2.10 enables you to travel one-way, including transfers, within the AB zone. You may also puchase €1.20 short journey ticket (Kurzatrecke) for journey of up to three rail or underground stops. It is also accepted for up to six stops on buses and trams.

A one day pass (Tageskarte) - valid until 03.00 am in the following morning costs €5.80. A seven day pass costs €25.40. Groups of up to five people can also purchase a special day ticket for groups (Kleingruppenkarte) costing €14.

The tourist office BVG and some hotels , the tourist office, and some hotels offer a range of of multiday cards. The 'Welcome' cards offer concessions at tourist places. The City Tour Cards offer 48 hours unlimited travel in the AB Zone plus concessions for €14.90 or 72 hours for €19.90.

Before you travel on the S - or U-Bahn, trains you must punch your ticket by on in the machine on the plarform. punching itthe platform.
