Restaurants In Prague
Prague's restaurants offer a wide range of styles - and 'The Cafe Louvre' exudes fine Czech style, and it should be on everybody's 'must try' list! - with a choice of three eating areas - there is a small posh and quiet area, opposite there is a larger and lively comfortable main room with a very pleasant ambience.
Other noteable places to eat in Prague include the Novomestsky Pivovar Restaurant Vodickova 20, New Town, Prague 1 with very decent Czech Cuisine & Czech Beer in central Prague in a venue which has the attributes of being a bar, restaurant and brewery. Welcomes groups and parties. ; U Kalicha Pub Restaurant Na Bojisti 12-14, Vinohrady, Prague 2 Very savoury Czech food, pintsize cold beers & and lively trafitional Czech music. More Prague Restaurants.
Restaurants In Budapest
Budapest is rich in restaurants which are often found in old and very bueatiful buildings and decorated with heavy curtains. Many, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays feature small classical quartets that add a great ambience to the whole dining experience.
Sometimes these muscians suddenly come into the restaurant and you can find yourself surrounded by a mini orchestra willing to play anything you care to name. And if you don't suggest something they will assume you are in love, which can be a little awrkward if your out with your ex to celebrate your divorce. More Budapest Restaurants.
Restaurants In Stockholm
Edsbacka Krog at Sollentunav. 220 is a little of the main beaten track but this coaching inn, complete with its wooden beams is a good source of extremely well prepared Scandinavian fare. The atmosphere is a little reserved and the service is extremly effecient and very formal. Telephone 08 -963300. Hermans, Fjällg. 23A, is one of Stockholms best vegatarian restaurants and very reasonably priced. The choice of food is broad including veggy lasagna, pasta and vegatable salads with some notable fruit pies and chocolate cakes to close with. The view of Stockholm Harbour is worth the shout as well. Telephone 08 - 6439480. More Stockholm Restaurants.
Restaurants in Vilnius
International restaurants in Vilnius seem to be a little scarce and one very good find is The Polonezas at Naugorduko 76 (Tel 210 41 68). This genuinely Polish establishment serves a truly exceptional bigos which includes severaly types of meats and stewed cabbage. Well worth a visit. Possibly the best restaurant in Vilnius is The Ukrainos Vakarai at Algirido 5 (Tel 265 03 02). The cuisine here is authentic Ukrainian of the highest standard. There is a menu in English which illustrates how spoilt for choice diners are. The borsche is brilliant and a range of exceptional meat dishes. All this complimented by a bar full of goodies including a vodka flavoured with red chilli peppers. More Vilnius Restaurants.
Restaurants in Zagreb
There appears to be fewer restaurants in Zagreb than one would expect in a Capital City and the scope of choice in international cuisine is also limited in comparative terms. Most restaurants seem to be closed on Sundays. Our first good discovery was Ivica i Marica at Tkalciceva 70, which offers the most delicious deserts which are made out whoilemeal flour and brown sugar. The cakes are very palatable and this is healthy eating! ZaloGajnica 'Pothodnik' at TRG A Starcevica in the Immportanne Centre is a very modest looking establishment which serves very good samma (cabbage leaves with mince meat and rice) stuffed peppers. Their pita and cakes are all fresh and home-baked. More Zagreb Restaurants.
Restaurants In Amsterdam
Eating out in Amsterdam can be expensive by European standards but there are a few places which are competively priced but do not cut corners on quality. One such establishment is Bakkerswinkel at Warmoestraat 69, Telephone 02048-9-98000. It opens from around 8am and closes late afternoon Tuesday - Sunday and is best described as a bakery that doubles up as a country tearoom. Here you can buy breakfast, lunch or tea, sandwiches cakes or quiche. Popular with locals and can get very crowded. Another bakery slightly more expensive but probably even by Amsterdams high standards more notable is the Pancake Bakery at Prinsengracht 191 More Amsterdam Restaurants.
Eating Out in Restaurants in Berlin
Berlin is a city awash with international cuisine. If you are 'cold calling' one of the best areas to head for is Charlottenburg on the west side of the city which has a very rich night life. Particularly good restaurants to travel to are: Alt Luxemburg at Winscheiderst.31 (Tel: 323 8780). This very old world restaurant serves good German food and offers exceptional lobster and rabbitt entree's. It is expensive but represents good value for money.
First Floor at the Hotel Palace, Budapester St. 42 (Tel: 2502 1020) is very high class French restaurant. It is surprising to find a restaurant of this calibre in a hotel enviroment and even more pleasing is the choice of Red wine which runs into hundreds. More Berlin Restaurants
Restaurants In Moscow
Moscow has numerous cafes and restaurants some (even those open 24 hours) offer exceptional food. A recent addition to the Moscow Cafe Society are the Coffee Bean Cafes which offer superb coffee and enormous cappuccinos - even if the accompanying cakes are not as good. This expanding chain has cafes at 18 Pokrovka, Bely Gorod, 18 Kuznetsky Most Bely Gorod and 5 Pyatniyskaya, Zamoskvoreche.
If you like Chinese, Persian or Russian dishes Beloye Solntse Pustyni at 29 Neglinnya.ul is reportedly good value. The service is not outstanding but the food is exceptional and there is an English version of the menu available. The set menu Dastarkhan offers samples of several dishes accompanied by a salad with exceptional vegatables. Tel: 095 209 7525. Metro: Kuznetsky Most. More Moscow Restaurants.
Restaurants In Reykjavik
Editorial Note: Every year Icelanders celebrate ' Sprengidagur' which translates as Bursting Day and is their name for Shrove Tuesday. In 2008 its on Febuary 5th and visitors to any restaurant may need to make reservations as the traditional way of celebrating this day is to eat salted meat until you are at bursting point.!
Tveir Fiskar Geirsgata 9 Tel: 511 3474 - easily found on the quayside in the harbour is regarded in many quarters as the best seafood restaurant in Reykjavik. One doubts whether you could find any fresher fish in the city but that said the fare which includes dolphin carpaccio, smoked puffin and whale steak is very imaginative as are the garnishes and accompaniments. Very expensive but out on its own in many ways and subject of numerous credits. website
Its quite difficult to find vegatarian restaurants in Reykjavik but one we did come across by accident was the A Naestu Grosum at Laugarvegur 20b I101. Fare not extensive but the emphasis here is on quality rather than quantity included a Thai meal (that apparently alternates with a curry) plus a couple of other main choices choices including pasta. There was a greater choice of deserts than main courses. Beers were available but we were happily tempted by the organic wine. Refreshingly this was one restaurant in Reykjavik which was not expensive. Telephone 552 8410. More Reykjavik Restaurants
Restaurants In Oslo
Euromost researchers have noted that eating out in Oslo iscan be very expensive compared with other European capitals. Visitors should be aware that some restaurants close for weekly holidays at Easter and in July, and may also close for a slightly longer time over Christmas and the New Year.
Babette's Gjestehus in Cental Oslo (Roald Amundsens gate 6, Rådhuspassasjen, Oslo, Norway 0160) is thought by many Norwegians to be one the countrys finest restaurants and you would need to book a table long in advance of your visit. The restaurant offers exceptional fare - game including reindeer with lingon berries, pheasant breast in mushroom sauce, and rabbit . Other European and Scandinavian dishes are available. The traditional antique decor gives the restaurant a rare style and anbience. Tele· 22-41-64-64.
establishment in the main Paleet shopping area and held in a similiar regard is Blom (Karljohans gate 39/41, Oslo, Norway 0162 · Tel 23-13-95-00) which maintains a second to none reputation for its seafood dishes. Its grilled fillet of redfish and scallops are legendary as is the the grilled reindeer liver in a very agreeable walnut sauce. There is also a truly outstanding dessert menu. Again reservation made well in advance are essential. More on eating Out In Oslo Bars & Restaurants
