FC Girodins De Bordeaux Football Club
Club History & Facts:
FC Girondins Bordeaux were founded in 1881. They were created as an all round sports club, but football became the major sport in 1910 and the first premier match took place in 1918. They play their football at the Stade Chaban in the south of France, a ground which holds 34,000 and the club nicknmae is Les Girondins.
Their home colours are dark blue and away colours are white. France's legendary defender Laurent Blanc is the coach of today's team and his success at Girindons has not gone unnoticed by the big clubs in Europe.
Bordeuax claimed their first Ligue 1 title in 1950 and enjoyed another dominant period in the mid 1980's with 3 French titles in 4 years. They won their first French title in 2009 after 10 years of watching rivals Lyon dominate the French league.
Star Players include highyly rated Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh, along term target of Arsenal.
European Performance
Their best European performance was Uefa Cup losing finalists in 1996 apart from that they have failed to make their mark on the European stage.
They compete in the 2990/10 Champions League and are expected to make life difficult for the favourites in the competition.
