VFL Wolfsburg Football Club
Club History & Facts:
VFL Wolfsburg were founded after the second World War in the new German City of Wolfsburg. The club almost met their demise early on in their inception when all of their players with the exception of 1, Josef Meyer who worked together with manager Willie Herbert to sign a new squad of players.
They play their football infront of a 30,000 Capacity at the Volkswagen Arena and play in green and white colours. After the team nicknamed Wolves spent 50 years in the lower reaches of the German League they eventually reached the Bundesliga in 1997. They reached the German cup final in 1995, but were thrashed 3-0 by then top German side Borussia Monchengladbach.
European Performance
Wolves spent some mediocre years in the top flight before the arrival of new manager Felix Magath in 2007 when they qualified for the Uefa cup that season.
The following season Wolfsburg upset the odds by winning their first ever Bundesliga crown finishing above favourites. This means they will now compete in the Champions League for the first time also and are reckoned as one of the tournament's dark horses this season.
They have a great crop of current players especially the sought after Brazillian striker Edin Dzeko who fans will be relieved to know has pledged his future to the German Champions. Wolfsburg may be a side lacking the colourful history of Bayern Munich and Hamburg, but they are a team on the up who are looking to make a name for themselves amidst Europe's elite.
