Ricardo Carvalho Ready To Move To Madrid
Ricardo Carvalho is set to join Real Madrid. Chelsea have announced that a fee in the region of 6.6 million has been agreed between the two clubs and the 32 year-old now needs to undergo a medical at the Bernabeau. Mourinho Not Looking For Cole
Jose Mourinho has ruled out a move for defender Ashley Cole. The New Real Madrid boss had been linked with the player who he controversially signed for Chelsea in 2006, but insists that he respects blues boss Carlo Ancelotti's position and will not continue in his attempts to lure Cole to the Bernabeau. Cole, 29 is thought to be unhappy in England with his private life splashed all over the tabloids practically every day, but it looks as if his wishes have not been granted and he will remain in England as a Chelsea player for the forthcoming season.
Arsenal Draw With Milan In Emirates Cup
Arsenal drew 1-1 with Ac Milan in the Emirates Cup. It was a bit of a slow start for the gunners who were missing the likes of skipper Cesc Fabregas, Abou Diaby and Dutch striker Robin Van Persie, but once they got into full flow they looked dangerous. New striker Marouane Chamakh gave the Gunners the lead after a strong run from Andriy Arshavin who passed to Chamakh to coolly slot past Abbiati in the Milan goal. Arsenal should have made it 2-0 when Tomasz Rosicky close range shot was saved well by Abbiati and Thomas Vermaelen's header from a corner was again denied by the Italian stopper. Milan forced their way back into the game when a superb set piece was headed in by Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato in the 70th minute, a goal which demonstrated Arsenal's achilles heel, defending from a set piece.
The home side should have restored the lead when youngster Mark Randall broke through and had his first shot well saved , but his second tame effort was so poor it had to be stopped again by the magnificent Abbiati in the AC goal. Milan looked the stronger side towards the end and came closest to winning the game when substitute Gianluca Zambrottas long range drive smacked the top off the crossbar. There were positive signs for Arsenal as both debutants Marouane Chamakh and defender laurent Kosceilny impressed, Chamakh displayed some great skill at times and scored the solitary Gunners goal and frenchman Koscielny looked solid in the heart of the Arsenal defence. Arsenal play Celtic today at 4.20 who drew 2-2 with Lyon yesterday and AC Milan play Lyon at 1.30.
Real Madrid Sign Khedira
Real Madrid have signed midfielder Sami Khedira from Stuttgart. The 23 year-old World cup star gained a reputation as a tough defensive midfielder after his displays for Germany in South Africa and obviously caught the gaze of new Madrid boss Jose Mourinho who was keen to bolster his midfield options. Khedira has signed a five year contract at the Bernabeau and the exact fee for his services is undisclosed
Rangers Look To Europe
Rangers are pursuing strikers Nikia Jelavic and Georgie Welcome in a bid to strengthen their depleted squad. The cash strapped club on keen on Rapid Vienna's Jelavic but are struggling to meet the asking price of 3.25 million. Honduran striker Georgie Welcome is set to fly in for talks on Monday and his signature looks a little more likely as he has been valued at just 500,000. The SPL champions are in dire need of reinforcements after the exits of several attacking players particularly the SPL's leading goal scorer of all time Kris Boyd who joined Middlesbrough last month.
Lazio Sign Man City Defender
Lazio have signed defender Javier Garrido from Manchester City. The Spanish player was one of those talked about leaving in City's attempt to cut down their squad to 25 players and comply with Premier League rules. With Aleksandr Kolarov going the other way and joining City for 19 million pounds, the 25 year-old became Lazio's first choice to replace Kolarov and there wasn't much point in Garrido fighting for his place at Eastland's as he was way down in the pecking order.
