Average Weather Conditions & Average Monthly Temperatures In Rome Italy

National Weather Guide For Italy

Current Rome Forecast

The climate in Rome is fairly predictable with mild winters and long dry summers. November is likely to be the wettest month of the year when it may rain for a dozen or so days during which well over a 100m (4 inches) of rain is possible. Even in winter Rainfall (December to March) it rarely rains more than eight to days a month.

Average daily temperatures between December and March are usually above 10 centigrade (50f) with lowest night temperatures above a few degrees freezing point so frost is not common. There are exceptions to these mild winters - frost can occur at anytime with temperatures several degrees below can occur but snow in Rome is a rare event:

During April and May temperatures start to climb - often touching 21 centigrade (70f) and sometimes several degrees above this. Five or six wet days can be expected at this time.

June is generally very warm or hot with temperatures in the upper twenties centigrade and often in the thirties. It is also the third driest month of the year with an expectancy of only four wet days. The humidity in June can be come quite moderate even in the evenings.

July and August (and often) early September are the driest months of the year - rain rarely fall more one or two days a month at this time of the year. Daily temperatures of around 30 centigrade (86f) are the norm but they can reach nearly 40 centigrade especially during July. At this time of the year the humidity is particularly uncomfortable and very noticeable at night when average temperatures only fall to 20 centigrade. Visitors should note that in July visitors to Rome are at their highest levels and the combination of heat heat and humidity can be uncomfortable if you are queuing to get in to establishments. Another point worth noting is that many Romans traditionally take their 'summer holiday' in August so some smaller businesses may be closed at this time. This is though, due to the increase in tourism to Rome's less evident than previously. These are the sunniest months of the year with 10 -11 hours of sunshine to be expected. Temperatures in the second half of September cool off a little as does the humidity.

Ask an Italian when they would choose to visit Rome and you might get the reply 'ottobrate' which means 'beautiful October'. The humidity returns to normal making daytimes temperatures from the mid to upper twenties very comfortable. Cooler at night as well.
