Airport Facilities

This is a very compact and  clean airport and efficiently run with (some staff seeming to have more than one job,. However at times  passport and customs procedures can be slow going.

There is a branch of the OTP bank which opens seven days a week at 08.00. During the week and on Sundays it closes at 14.00 and on Saturdays 12.00. The airports exchange bureau opens ever day from 06.00 to 22.00. There is a coffee shop, newsagents and tobacconist plus a reasonable duty free shop. Note Departing planes take off fairly steeply!

Travel From Dubrovnik Airport To Old Town – Central Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik Airport is 21 km from the centre of Downtown Dubrovnik

Rail Services Dubrovnik Airport There is no rail service in this part of Croatia, The nearest railway stations are  Pioce and Spllt  – see the Publuc Transport section below.

Bus Services To And From Dubrovnik Airport   Local bus services to and from the airport are irregular as they are scheduled around the flight arrivals and departures.  Consequently at times especially during the winter there may be  gaps of  90 – 120 minutes between each service..The average journey time between Dubrovnik and the airport is around 45 minutes some of which is on a very scenic coastal road.

In general bus services to the airport leave Dubrovnik around two hours before the scheduled flight departure time from the main bus station. The cost is around 40 kn. The departure times of these bus services are displayed in the Pile Gate tourist information office. En route these services pass above the Old Town at the  bus stop on Petra Kresimira 4 next to the lower cable car station. Flag the bus down as it approaches you.

Taxis To And From Dubrovnik Airport The cost of a Taxis between Dubrovnik Airport and the centre of Dubrovnik should be between 320 – 350 kn. You are advised to agree the price with driver before departing. Most taxis drivers speak at least a little English.

Information on Public Transport in Dubrovnik

This hilly coastal city has no train services trams or metros

Bus Services In Dubrovnik:  . There are about a dozen local city bus routes  Generally the services start after 5am and finish between 11pm and 1am. The frequency of services varies but 60 minute plus gaps are fairly normal. Because these intervals are irregular visitors to Dubrovnik may find having a time table very useful. The main bus station in Dubrovnik is at  Kantafig, close to Port Gruz and the Tudjman bridge. It is 2.5 km northwest of the Old Town and bus route 1 serves Old Town. Most  bus routes serve the Bus Station at Port Gruz and the Pile Gate entrance to the Old Town.

There are also several bus routes connecting the old city with the main hotel areas and the suburbs Routes 1A and 1B should be noted as they cover the harbour, bus station at Gruž and the Pile Gate entrance to the old city. Route 4 runs between the Lapad Peninsula and Pile Gate

Fares On Dubrovnik Buses Tickets for a bus journey can be purchased from any Kiosk and cost 10 kn. Tickets purchased from the driver cost 12 kn. You can also buy a 24hr unlimited travel ticket valid from the moment you validate from the international bus station and selected kiosks.

Rail Services To And From Dubrovnik There are no rail services in Dubrovnik. The nearest railway stations are Pioce and Split.  The journey between Pioce (which has connection to Mostar and Sarajevo) and Dubrovnik takes about two hours by bus.  The journey between Split (which connects with Zagreb and northern Croatia)  and Dubrovnik officially takes four and half  hours by bus but these services can be delayed by up to two hours by Bosnian Border controls as the bus route has to travel through Bosnian territory. see the coach section that follows:

Coach Services To And From Dubrovnik: Direct Services from the International bus station connect Zagreb with Zagreb Sarajevo and Montenegro  There are also about 12 daily services to Split.  Passengers travelling between Dubrovnik and Split should be aware that part of the journey  is made throuigh an area known as the Neum Corridor which is part of Bosnia Herzegovina.   You will need your passport on you as Bosnian Authorities frequently board buses  and coaches in this area and carry out  identity  passport and other checks which can delay the service by up to two hours.

Dubrovnik Cable Car  If you want a classic bird’s eye post card view the Old Town and the harbour in Dubrovnik  take a ride in the cable car which is situated next to the Fire Station. If your in the Old Town on the northern side leave through the city walls via Buza Street and cross over to the right. of  The cable reopened in 2010 after being closed in 1881 during the wars. When you reach the top there is a restaurant with an amazing  panoramic view.  The cost of a round trip on the cable car is about 89 kn

Taxis In Dubrovnik    There are taxis ranks at the main bus station and at the Pile Gate entrance to the Old Town. When ever you use a taxis make sure the meter is running.  These numbers are licensed taxis numbers +385 20 357 044./ 385 20 423 164;

Warning For Pedestrians The Old Town of Dubrovnik is  pedestrianised but outside this area pedestrians and cyclists should be very careful as some roads are rat runs.
