March 12th:  The American President has announced that as from 00.01 on Friday 13th European nationals from mainland Europe (except the United Kingdom) will not be permitted to fly to the United States for at least 30 days. These restrictions will also apply to American citizens travelling from Europe who have not been screened for the coronavirus. In addition to the United States will have an embargo on cargo from Europe. This will apply to any goods or products from Europe being exported to the United States except those from the United Kingdom.

In a statement on American new networks President Trump said these restrictions were essential as the European Union had failed to follow the example of the United States who banned visitors from China and other Asian areas when the coronavirus was seen to be  evolving significantly earlier this year.  This failure he said was responsible for the recent outbreak in Europe and resulted in Europeans from there who were visiting the United States spreading ‘clusters’ of the virus in the country.
